CONFIRMED! Australia to Face South Africa in 2nd Semi-Final of World Cup 2023

Australia beat Afghanistan by wickets in match No 39 of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Tuesday (November 7). In a match that was played at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai,the five-time champions rode on Glenn Maxwell's unbeaten 201 from 128 balls to successfully chase down the of 293 runs in 46.5 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Maxwell added 202 runs for the eighth wicket with skipper Pat Cummins to seal the deal for the most successful side in the competition's history.

The Aussies were struggling at 91 for 7 at one stage, but from there on, Maxwell took the matter into his own hands to single-handedly win the match for the Australian team.The win over Afghanistan on Tuesday was Australia's sixth win in row in the ODI World Cup 2023, and with a total of 12 points, they have confirmed a place in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023.

Pat Cummins-led side become the third team to qualify for the last four after India and South Africa. India is guaranteed to finish at the top, and with 12 points each to their name, Australia and South Africa are set to finish in the top three, which means irrespective of what happens in the remaining six league stage matches, these two teams will face each other in the semi-finals.

As things stand, Australia, which suffered a defeat against South Africa in their second match of the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 12 in Lucknow,will have a chance to take revenge against proteas on November 16 in Kolkata,the same venue where 36 years ago, under Allan Border's leadership,they won their first ODI World Cup title .

But there could be a change in venue and date of the second semi-final if Pakistan manages to finish 4th in the league table.If Pakistan becomes the fourth team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 ,then the India vs. Pakistan semi-finals will take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and the Australia - South Africa semi-finals will be played at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai .

But If Pakistan fails to reach the last four, then India will face one of Newzealand, Afghanistan,or the Netherlands at Wankhede stadium on November 15,and Australia will take on South Africa in Kolkata on November 16.
